    :: Version 3.21
    :: Date: 08.10.2026
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

[!] QC works under esxDOS on a DivMMC with TRD images on
the SD card, through its TR-DOS emulation: tried with
0.8.9 on the Spectrum 48, 128, +2A/+3 and Pentagon in
emulators (it finds 0.8.5 and later; the ZX-Uno and the
Next in its esxDOS mode not tried). QC finds
esxDOS itself and shows "esxDOS" in the window of the
modes. What an image has no use for is off there: the
Care menu (C says "Not available under esxDOS.") and
the autoKeep mode. T leaves QC for esxDOS's own TR-DOS,
as for a program. A drive with no image says "No Disk."
at once. SMUC's clock doesn't work under esxDOS, and QC
    turns it off.
[!] Under esxDOS QC can be the default boot: the file
TRDBOOT.BIN on the SD card in place of TR-DOS Navigator,
and Enter in the browser on any image with no boot of
its own starts QC. Quick Setup installs it, sets it up
and updates it (Navigator kept as TRDBOOT.NAV).
[!] Quick Setup sets up not only QC's files on a disk but
also QC's ROM image (qc_rom.C), its resident in the
memory, the Shadow RAM and under esxDOS TRDBOOT.BIN on
the SD card: at the start it shows where it found QC and
    asks what to set up.
[*] The kit: the disk image QC_3_21.TRD (its first file
boot, a copy of QC's) in place of QC_3_21.SCL. esxDOS
0.8.9 doesn't write to an SCL, older versions don't open
one. The image also has the ROM image (qc_rom.C) and
    TRDBOOT.BIN (trdboot.C) for Quick Setup.
[*] Save boot (S) writes the boot in the place of the disk's
    first boot.B (the one TR-DOS runs) if they are as long;
else that one is deleted and the new boot added at the
end. Till now the new boot was always added at
the catalogue's end and never ran if the disk already
had a boot (the kit's image, for one).
[*] If QC starts in the main menu and the disk has no basic
files, it opens the file menu at once (Space takes it
back to the main menu, as ever).
[*] The window of the modes: "autoKeep" and "Full" in place
of "aKeep" and "Fullcat"; autoKeep (under esxDOS
"esxDOS") under the machine, Full under "res".
[*] The kit's texts in English: this history (hist_en.txt);
the short description is readme.txt (was file_id.diz).
[?] The sprite viewer (Symbol Shift+v) is off for now: its
room is needed for the work under esxDOS.
[-] The CMOS clock: on a grey 128 and +2 without the clock
QC showed the time ??:??:?? (the clock's ports give the
screen's bytes there). Now at the start QC reads the
clock's register for a whole frame and without the clock
    works without the CMOS.
[-] Quick Setup reads the settings back after writing them
to a disk and says "Not saved" if they aren't there.
It said "Saved." after Ignore on a write-protected disk
too. If the disk in the drive was changed, S writes
nothing, and R and N look for QC on the new disk (S
wrote the settings into another file where the old one
was). After a disk error ? goes back to it, not to "No
QC". QC 3.11b3 is set up as 3.05-3.11, not as 3.20.

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
    :: Version 3.20
    :: Date: 05.10.2026
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

[!] Files packed with ZX0 (Einar Saukas) are unpacked as
    Hrust's are: U and the viewers (v, V, z, Symbol Shift+v,
Enter). A ZX0 stream is recognised by itself, in any
file (ZX0 has no header), and viewing plain files is no
slower for this check. QC's standard for such files:
.zx0 (type z, "x0" in the start field) and .z_<type>
(type z, "_" and the original type, as Hrust's
.p_<type>): U gives that type back, and the panel
colours such a file as its original type.
[!] The text viewer reads UTF-8: the text is turned into
cp866 (Russian letters, pseudographics and the font's
signs as they are, quotes, dashes, Ukrainian and
Belarusian letters as similar signs, the rest as ?). The
coding is found by itself, C switches DOS/UTF (the file
is loaded again). The first screen of a big text comes
    sooner.
[!] Help: ? and H show the mode's keys and what they do (in
a frame over the panels); a key in the help runs its
command, ? and H close it. The menus at the bottom are
in words, with Help: "Copy Move Delete Rename merGe View
    Unpack muZ" and "Care_menu diskName Tr-dos Run_in_48k
Saveboot"; the other keys are in the help.
[!] Quick Setup 3.20 on the kit's disk (QS 3.20, the idea is
Looker's, his QS 1.0 was for 3.04): the settings of QC
3.05-3.20 in its file on a disk - the mode at the start,
the drives, the full catalogue, the tunes, the load (of
3.05-3.11), the resident, the CMOS, the catalogue's
copy, the drives' speed, the colours of the file types
and of QC. The keys as in QC, the mouse; Save writes,
    Default puts the release's values.
[!] The player is Sergey Bulba's PTxPlay (release 1, 2007)
in place of the PT3 player r6. It plays PT2 modules too:
a module with no text in its header is found by the
    header's structure in the file's first 3K (UniSearch's
search). In modules of PT 3.7 and later the commands 1
and 2 with delay 0 shift the tone by one step, as the
editor does (they didn't before). The title line shows
the module's format (PT3.x, VT II or PT2).
[+] U and the viewers unpack Hrust and ZX0 files of more
than 32K: data up to 64K (Hrust's up to 56K) are
unpacked right into the pages, with no joining and no
moving of the commander's memory. On a 48K up to 16K
(Hrust's up to 14K). U takes a file of any length (was
up to 128 sectors) and writes data up to 65280 bytes
(255 sectors). Hrust unpacks faster (files from 16K by
    19-25%).
[+] The panel shows the machine and all its memory in lower
case (zx 128k, pen 1024k, evo 4096k; atm, k/s, pro), and
res on the right (was "resid"). Buffer is in the main
menu too now (in place of Memory). For the buffer QC
takes up to 1024K, as before; the ZX-Evolution is found
by its port x7F7 (#F7F7), and the panel shows all its
    4096K.
[+] The picture viewer: screens with a border (.bsc, 11136
bytes). The screen is shown as usual, and the border in
one colour, the one most frequent in its picture. The
border's picture itself isn't shown yet.
[+] Rename: the cursor keys down and up write the name, as
Enter does, and at once rename the next or the previous
file (as made for QC 4.00).
[+] The picture viewer: A changes the colours, as Space does
    (as made for QC 4.00).
[+] The mouse in Quick Setup (Mouse): the buttons can be
swapped (swapped: on the ZX-Evolution the left button is
bit 0 of the port #FADF, on a Kempston mouse the right
    one is).
[+] The mouse: a left click on the line "Quick Commander"
switches the main and the file menu, as Space does.
[+] The text for developers: the configurations and their
ports, the settings in QC's file, the resident and the
return to QC from a program, the work with TR-DOS, the
file formats, the ZX0 depacker's licence.
[+] The descriptions in English: guide_en.txt and
    tech_en.txt.
[*] The commander is packed with ZX0 (Einar Saukas) in place
of Hrust: the file is shorter, unpacking at the start is
    faster (0.6 s in place of 0.9 s). U and the viewers
    unpack Hrust files as before.
[*] The mouse pointer is an arrow (as made for QC 4.00) in
place of an inverted 4x8 box: it moves by pixels, is
seen over the text, doesn't jump to the screen's other
edge when moved fast. It is seen while files are marked
with the right button and while music plays. The same
    arrow in Quick Setup.
[*] Save boot and "res" in the panel check the resident at
its page's end too (the mark "Residentpresent!"), not
only at its start: if a program spoilt the end (with its
stack, say), the boot isn't saved (as made for QC 4.00).
[*] Break (Caps Shift+Space) closes the text, sprite and
picture viewers, as Edit does (as made for QC 4.00).
Break was Space before: it turned the text a page,
    changed a picture's colours.
[*] Unpacking is U in place of N (as made for QC 4.00), the
name is asked with the words "Unpack file:".
[*] In the boot mode H is the help: the list's program H is
    run by Enter and 0.
[*] The messages are shorter: "Bad disk." in place of
"Incorrect disk.", "Formatting..." in place of
"Formating disk...", "Mask:" in place of "Mask for
files:" (renaming by a mask, CS+R).
[*] The kit has TR-DOS 6.11E (Alone Coder, 2006) in place of
    6.10E.
[*] The description is split into three texts: the
commander's description (guide_ru.txt), this history of
changes (hist_ru.txt) and the description for developers
    (tech_ru.txt).
[?] The command H (packing a file with Hrust) is gone: its
memory is needed for the new. Unpacking (U) and viewing
packed files stay. With it went S in the file mode: it
switched the packing's speed (faStpack/Slowpack in the
panel, that word is gone too). In the boot mode S is
    Save boot, as before.
[?] The text viewer: the codings WIN (cp1251) and KOI8-R are
gone, DOS (cp866) and UTF-8 stay.
[?] The key Y (about the author) is gone, and the mouse
click on the commander's name that called it.
[?] The extensions .v and .V (Vortex Tracker II modules,
since 3.05) are no longer coloured: "superfluous"
(Sergey Bulba), as made for QC 4.00. Their bytes in the
    setup stay in place, unused.
[?] Enter on code runs it at once, from its start address
(as made for QC 4.00): the load and the start addresses
are no longer asked. Code that loads into the screen
(start #4000..#5AFF: a picture or memory from the
screen) Enter shows as V does. Files of other types than
basic and code Enter doesn't run.
[?] The fast loader Ursula 2.4 (Nick Patlaenko) is gone: the
commander's code is loaded by TR-DOS's function #3D13
(as made for QC 4.00). From a floppy QC starts about 0.4
s later, but it loads wherever TR-DOS works: in
emulators without the VG93's ports, from virtual drives
    and a RAM disk.
[-] On the Pentagon 512/1024/4096 and KAY 1024 the
    resident's page (#D7) is the 31st (KAY's the 23rd), and
QC took it for the 7th: Copy and Move overwrote the
resident, and the ROM version put its code into page 7
but looked for it, the settings and the resident in the
31st (23rd): the settings from the CMOS were lost or
taken from random bytes, "resid" wasn't there, Save boot
didn't work. Now QC finds that page itself.
[-] ZX-Evolution: QC saw 512K in place of 1024K and turned
the turbo on: the Pentagon 4096 probe (port #AFF7) hit
#EFF7 and turned the Pentagon 1024 mode on, and the
clock (Gluk) wrote 0 to #EFF7 at every access (in the
MAME emulator Copy of more than 128K hung from it). Now
the ATM ports are tried first, and the clock leaves the
memory and the turbo bits in #EFF7.
[-] Mr Gluk Reset Service 6.3+: bit 7 of the CMOS cell #10
forbids Gluk to remember the drive, and QC with the CMOS
writing on wrote the drive's number there and lifted
that ban. Now with bit 7 QC leaves the cell #10 alone.
[-] Copy aborted (Abort) on "No Space", "Cat Over" or a
write error: the next write of the input disk's
catalogue counted the free space by the output disk's
size (with disks of different sizes, a wrong number of
    free sectors).
[-] After "No Disk." on the same drive (the disk taken out,
    5) the head lost its cylinder: the disk put back was
read from the wrong tracks (v showed other sectors).
[-] Format: with no disk it began formatting (now, as Check,
it first checks that the disk spins); after an aborted
(Abort) copy to another drive it formatted the tracks
off their places; aborted with the key a right after the
start it spoilt track 159; after Ignore on a verify
error the rest of the track was read from track 23.
[-] K (aKeep) on a write-protected disk with Abort: the mode
switched though nothing was written to the disk, and the
next write of the catalogue set or cleared the mark on
the disk. Now everything stays as on the disk.
[-] Rename: Russian letters in the extension's 2nd and 3rd
sign spoilt the file's start address, and the extension
wasn't saved. Now such an extension isn't taken, the
    start stays whole.
[-] A file whose length is a multiple of 256 and doesn't
match its number of sectors had its length counted 255
bytes more than fits in its sectors.
[-] Hrust unpacking (U and the viewers): a file with data of
more than 32K spoilt the memory, a block longer than 32K
(its end lost: so the command H saved it) crashed the
commander, and a file with an incompressible end gave
    rubbish or hung.
[-] The player: hung on a module with 0 positions in its
header (broken or altered modules); a module longer than
16K or crossing the boundary of the file's 16K parts
played the ROM in place of its end (such modules aren't
played now); after p, f, l a channel on the envelope was
silent till the module set it again; a mouse click on
line 23 in the pause gave a random key.
[-] Enter in the text, picture or sprite viewer (the next
file): the player took a module past the file's first
16K from the wrong memory page (rubbish or a hang), and
with a file longer than 48K the music went over its
bytes in place of the panels.
[-] The sprite viewer (Symbol Shift+v): with a file longer
than 48K the screen was shown past 48K in place of the
    file.
[-] The mouse: on a grey 128 and +2 with no mouse QC took it
for connected (its ports give the screen's bytes), and
the pointer jumped. Now at the start the mouse's buttons
are read for a whole frame (as made for QC 4.00).
[-] The mouse: a click on a drive button chose the drive
during "No Disk." too, a disk error (and the next click
on Retry didn't work), in the care menu. Now a click is
as a key (1-4 for the input drive, Symbol Shift+1-4 for
the output), and the drive is chosen only in the panels.
[-] Marking files by dragging with the right mouse button:
on the scroll bar a file was marked where the pointer
wasn't, and after the menu of line 23 or a drive button
files were no longer marked (the button chose the drive
    too).
[-] After a disk check (Check, Resdisk) not aborted with
Abort, a disk error in another command (Copy, Save...)
showed "Skip" in place of the file's name, though s
    doesn't work there.
[-] Buffer on a 128K (and at the start with w) showed 320
sectors in place of 384 if page 8 isn't used: a page
that isn't there was taken off. Copy and Move took all
    384.
[-] The scroll bar's knob sometimes didn't move (with 128
files, from the 22nd file to the 23rd) and was redrawn
for nothing when the cursor stayed on the same file.
[-] The text viewer: the codes 11 and 12 in the colour modes
were shown as other signs of the font.
[-] The picture viewer: on a screen without attributes (6144
bytes) the right 8 pixels of the last line were spoilt.
[-] Hrust unpacking (U and the viewers): a block with no
data after its header (so oh2c packs an empty file)
overwrote the commander's memory, and a block with a
zero data length U saved as a file of 0 sectors and
rewrote a track on the disk. Now such blocks aren't
    unpacked.
[-] A file of 0 sectors (the catalogue's lines and labels):
    v, V, z, Symbol Shift+v, a click on it and U read 255
sectors from where it points (the catalogue or the next
files), and U could unpack the next file under its name.
Now such a file isn't read.
[-] A sector with the deleted data mark (protected disks):
the error message showed the wrong track and sector, and
Ignore reset the machine. Now it is Error, as TR-DOS's
DISC ERROR, and Retry, Abort, Ignore work.
[-] Copy and Save to a disk with old entries left past the
catalogue's end (so it is on others' disks): they got
into the catalogue, the free space shrank, and when
several files were copied the entries of the second and
the next pointed not at their data. Now the catalogue's
end is set after a new entry, as Erase and m do.
